Winner of the State Council's Special Allowance, and awarded as Excellent Expert by the Ministry of Culture in China
Graduated from the Secondary School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music with great achievements, Bao was recommended for admission to the Piano Department of Central Conservatory of Music and won the First Prize of piano competition of Chinese musical works. Then she was admitted to the Master's program. Through young, Huiqiao won many prizes in piano competitions for her excellent skills. She won the 5th prize in the 2nd George Piano Competition (1961) and the First Prize in the National Piano Trial Competition (1965). Not only has she served as judge or chairman of the jury in almost every major piano competition in China, she has also been invited to judge at more than 10 major international piano competitions in the United States,
the United Kingdom, Israel, Spain and other countries, such as Leeds International Piano Competition, Rubinstein International Piano Competition, Seoul International Piano Competition, Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, Jaén international piano competition, e-international piano competition, etc.
In 1956, Polish Prime Minister Jozef Cyrankiewicz visited China. Accompanied by Prime Minister Zhou Enlai, she watched the concert at which Huiqiao played Choppin’s 《The Scherzo in B-flat minor》 and won warm applause. From 1970, until her retirement, she served as a piano soloist at National Symphony Orchestra. As a national first-class actor and a recipient of Special Allowance provided by the State Council, she was named as an excellent expert by the Culture Ministry of China. She is the author of 《Bao Huiqiao’s Listeners and Followers--An Interview on Chinese and Foreign Pianists》 (published in three volumes). And she is the chief editor and personally contributed to the compilation of 《New Ideas About Piano Teaching》 (has been published 18 episodes).
